This year (our 16th on the Wirral) we discovered something new about our locality.
It seems that on Boxing Day every year, Hoylake RNLI take on the Hoylake Sailing Club in a tug of war on the beach.
I joined about 150 or so people who turned out to watch the spectacle this year and although it was over in next to no time, it was well fought and cheered on by the onlookers.
The RNLI team looked the part in their RNLI gear, leaving the Sailing Club boys looking relatively ram-shackle. Outward appearences turned out to signify inward performance too, with the RNLI team winning 2-0.
Everyone has Christmas traditions, and this was a feast.
