I stayed at the Holiday Inn, Heathrow, last night.
The price I’d been quoted turned out to be exclusive of VAT! What a rotten trick.
I ordered room service and got a very good pizza with fresh chillies. I love hot pizza! They phoned me shortly after to ask if everything was ok with my meal. “Nice touch,” I thought, “never had that before.” Then they asked if I required anything else and realised that basically they just wanted the opportunity to sell to me.
This morning I was asked if I’d like a newspaper to read over breakfast. I just felt like I was being sold to rather than serviced.
It’s a fine line.
