My ex-colleagues at Vodafone generously provided me with a Nikon D5000 with 18-55mm kit lens as a leaving present.
After playing with it for 3 days, I’m starting to get some pleasant results. Most significantly:
1. I’m loving the detail you get from 12M pixels - wow!
2. The difference between jpeg and RAW is stunning. I’m never going back.
3. Nikon’s own RAW software is much better than it used to be. Still slow, but usable. When I get another job I’ll treat myself to a Photoshop Elements upgrade.
4. I think I’m going to need to replace my old Tamron 70-300mm lens. Another one for when I get a new job.
5. The pre-sets are surprisingly good.
