A funny series of connected things take place when you consider moving jobs, centered loosely on how you view the “worth” of the job you’re in.
“Worth” might be a matter of personal income, altruism, or something else entirely.
There’s certainly a period of reflection during which some aspects of the job seem less important than they normally do and that difference is important to you and the place you work.
If only we could strip out the unimportant stuff every day without the need to reach a point of departure before they are identified - how different would the workplace be?
On Saturday I went to an event looking at working with children and teenagers in church. In particular, how should they be integrated into Sunday worship.
Should we pack them off to age-appropriate classes or keep them in church with everyone else? One answer seems to be an all-age service, though it takes a gifted communicator to get it right.
They did a sample all-age service on Saturday and it was inspirational. Has to be worth a try!
Everyone knows the phrase, “Find a job you love and you’ll never work another day in your life.”
I recently did a “strengths finder” in work to help me get the most out of my career. Only 2 out of 10 people have a job that builds on their core strengths.
My top 5 strengths are:
- Strategic
- Analytical
- Connectedness
- Learner
- Belief
In the Summer I had a go at some Time Lapse video stuff for our church’s summer camp. It was harder than expected because you’re not really in control while you’re filming and editing takes an age!
